In a thrilling announcement, the Southland Conference has recognized two standout players from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) volleyball team, igniting excitement among fans and players alike. But who are these athletes, and what did they achieve to earn this prestigious honor?
Isabella Costantini, a junior setter, and Julianna Bryant, a redshirt sophomore middle blocker, have been named to the SLC Volleyball All-Tournament Team. This selection is a testament to their exceptional skills and contributions to the team's success. Costantini, a powerhouse on the court, led UTRGV to a remarkable performance. She achieved a .269 hitting percentage, with a standout .420 in the semifinal sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (AMCC). With 96 assists and an impressive average of 10.67 assists per set, she orchestrated the team's offense with precision. Costantini's all-around talent was on full display as she recorded two double-doubles and served four aces, showcasing her versatility.
But here's where it gets even more impressive: she achieved all this while also contributing defensively with 10 digs in the quarterfinals and 11 in the championship match. And this is the part most people miss—her ability to excel in both offensive and defensive roles is a rare quality that sets her apart.
Julianna Bryant, a force to be reckoned with, played a pivotal role in UTRGV's journey to the championship match. With nine blocks and 19 kills, she dominated the net, hitting an impressive .250. Bryant's performance against AMCC was exceptional, as she recorded 11 kills on a .714 hitting percentage. Her energy and presence on the court were undeniable, and her slide attacks thrilled the crowd.
The SLC Volleyball All-Tournament Team also included other talented players, such as Kyla Malone (UIW), Camryn Hill (SFA), and the MVP, Ilana De Assis (SFA).
This recognition is a significant achievement for Costantini and Bryant, solidifying their impact on the UTRGV volleyball program.
