Tesla's Reputation Plummets in Germany: A Look at the Shocking Survey Results (2026)

Tesla's reputation has taken a massive hit in Germany, ranking dead last in a brand reputation survey. This is a shocking development, especially considering the company's already poor standing in the Nordic countries.

The "Reputation&Trust 2025" study, conducted by Reputation and Trust Analytics, paints a grim picture for Tesla. Out of 30 companies surveyed in Germany, Tesla scored a mere 2.48 out of 5, which is considered "very bad." This is a significant drop from its previous middling score of 3.25, and it now lags behind companies with similarly negative reputations.

The survey evaluates companies across eight critical factors, including governance, financial performance, leadership, innovation, dialogue, products & services, workplace, and responsibility. Tesla's poor performance in governance, working conditions, and corporate responsibility has likely contributed to its overall decline.

But here's where it gets controversial: Tesla's reputation tanked even further than companies like Temu, known for its cheap knockoffs, and Nestlé, infamous for child labor and environmental controversies. These companies still managed to score higher than Tesla, which is now at the very bottom of the list.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, also experienced a drop in reputation, but it was only a third of Tesla's decline. This raises the question: why are investors rewarding Elon Musk, who seems to be steering the company towards disaster?

Tesla's troubles aren't limited to Germany. In the Nordic countries, Tesla's reputation has been steadily declining, with Sweden seeing a drastic drop from 3.88 in 2021 to 2.43 in 2025. This decline is likely linked to Tesla's anti-union behavior, which has damaged its reputation across the region.

And this is the part most people miss: Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, has been increasingly involved in politics, making statements that align with white supremacist ideologies. His support for German neo-Nazis and agreement with a defense of Hitler's actions have driven protests, embarrassed owners, and pushed customers away. Musk's behavior has shifted the association of driving a Tesla from being environmentally conscious to something entirely different.

Riku Ruokolahti, Development Director at Reputation and Trust Analytics, explains that Tesla's appeal was based on sustainability signaling. However, Musk's irresponsible behavior has undermined this image, leading to a rapid loss of reputation.

So, why are investors turning a blind eye to Musk's actions? It's a puzzling question, especially considering the company's dropping sales across Europe.

What do you think? Is Tesla's reputation beyond repair, or can it recover from this scandal? Share your thoughts in the comments!
