Mark Your Calendars: The Toyota Supra's Final Lap is Next Year
The iconic Toyota Supra is set to bid farewell to the automotive world in early 2026, marking the end of an era for enthusiasts. Toyota's recent announcement confirms the Supra's departure, leaving fans with a bittersweet feeling. The car's final production year will be 2026, and the Final Edition model, a limited-run tribute, is already available for purchase.
A Legacy Comes Full Circle
Toyota's press release was concise but impactful: 'Supra production will conclude in March 2026. We appreciate the support of our customers worldwide. We regret informing potential buyers of this decision.' The Supra's journey began with a 21-year hiatus, restarting in 2019 with the fifth-generation model unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. This new Supra was a collaboration with BMW, sharing its platform and powertrains with the Z4.
The initial release featured the 3.0-liter inline-six B58 engine, with the 2.0-liter inline-four B48 added in 2021. The car was equipped with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, later offering a six-speed manual for the inline-six engine. The Final Edition, available in Japan and Europe, boasts an upgraded B58 engine, producing 429 hp and 420 lb-ft, while the US version remains with the 382 hp B58.
A New Chapter Awaits
While the Supra's production is ending, its legacy lives on. Toyota has hinted at a potential successor, but the gap between generations remains uncertain. The wait for a new Supra might not be as long as the 21-year hiatus, but enthusiasts will have to wait and see. The Final Edition is a fitting conclusion, offering a glimpse into the car's potential.
