Silk's Dominance at Thompson: A 30th NWMT Victory
Even as a part-time competitor in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Ron Silk is poised to conclude the 2025 season as the most victorious driver. Silk secured this distinction at the World Series 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, leading for half the race and claiming his fourth win of the year.
With this triumph, Silk became the eighth driver in the history of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to achieve at least 30 victories. Silk's commanding performance resulted in an eight-second lead at the finish line, despite not anticipating such a wide margin of victory.
Silk attributed his success to a well-performing car, despite a less-than-ideal 11th-place qualifying position. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, even if it meant a less thrilling race for spectators.
Thompson Speedway holds significant historical value for Silk, who has won three Modified Tour races there between 2007 and 2008. This victory marked the ninth time Silk has stood in the Victory Lane at Thompson.
Silk's triumph in 2023, his first with the Haydt-Yannone Racing team, was particularly memorable as it came during a fierce championship battle with Justin Bonsignore. This win was pivotal in Silk's pursuit of his second Modified Tour title.
Despite voluntarily skipping several events this year, Silk and Haydt-Yannone Racing maintained their status as a top team. Silk's dominance in 2025 includes the most wins and laps led, a statistic he further solidified at Thompson.
Silk expressed gratitude for the strong team chemistry at Haydt-Yannone Racing, which has enabled efficient performance despite a reduced schedule. He remains confident in their continued success, regardless of the number of events they participate in.
Matt Swanson finished second, securing the FloRacing Connecticut Challenge, an in-season championship among three Thompson events for new teams or programs. Austin Beers, the Modified Tour points leader, finished third, surpassing Justin Bonsignore.
The top five was completed by Matt Hirschman and Craig Lutz, with Bonsignore, Kyle Bonsignore, Patrick Emerling, Tyler Rypkema, and Stephen Kopcik rounding out the top 10.
The 2025 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion will be crowned in the final race at Martinsville Speedway on October 23, with FloRacing providing live coverage.
