Maxey hitting his peak performance
Tyrese Maxey covers more court than anyone—quite literally, clocking in at 2.9 miles per game, surpassing everyone else by 0.3 miles.
He's also one of the league's top sharpshooters from beyond the arc, ranking third in three-pointers made this season with 41. He fearlessly charges the basket, placing 12th in drives per game at 15.0.
And his scoring prowess is unmatched, coming in second overall at 33.2 points per game, just behind last year's Kia NBA MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Plus, he's dishing out a personal best of 8.2 assists each night.
In his most recent outing, he tallied his sixth 30-point game—tied for third in the NBA—in a narrow 111-108 (https://www.nba.com/game/det-vs-phi-0022500195/box-score) defeat to the Pistons, earning energetic 'MVP!' cheers from the Philly fans.
His relentless style echoes Philadelphia's legendary star Allen Iverson, who averaged 31.1 points in his MVP-winning 2001 campaign.
Iverson could score in nearly every conceivable fashion—slipping into the lane, darting left or right, with blinding speed fueled by unyielding grit.
That description fits Maxey to a tee.
As you view the clip above, notice the variety of his scoring options—the defense must stay glued to him at all times, and he powers through contact for finishes like that strong left-handed dunk at the end.
Iverson excelled supremely in solo plays, averaging 1.16 points per possession in isolation during his MVP year, whereas Maxey is at 0.70 this season.
Iverson often started from a stationary position, adapting to tighter spacing by unleashing his signature crossover to outmaneuver bigger defenders and slash like someone much larger.
Yet Maxey, embracing the contemporary style of play, adds a lethal long-range shot to his arsenal. He's connecting on 44.1 percent from three, sinking 4.1 out of 9.3 attempts per game.
The Sixers are fortunate to have him. Could Maxey propel them to the NBA Finals, much like Iverson did?
He'll need to sustain this frenetic rhythm. But the potential is certainly there.
And this is the part most people miss: While Iverson's isolation dominance was a product of his era's packed defenses, Maxey's modern efficiency might prove even more sustainable in today's spacing-heavy game—though some purists argue it lacks the same raw individualism. What do you think? Does Maxey's versatility trump Iverson's isolation brilliance?

Get ready for a packed Tuesday with six games!
Russell Westbrook and the Kings welcome Nikola Jokić and the Nuggets in the latter part of tonight's 'NBA Coast 2 Coast' doubleheader on NBC and Peacock.
It's 'Coast 2 Coast Tuesday,' delivering a doubleheader brimming with intense rivalries and storied history on NBC and Peacock, as Jaylen Brown and the Celtics battle Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers (8 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/bos-vs-phi-0022500209) ), followed by Nikola Jokić and the Nuggets clashing with Russell Westbrook and the Kings (11 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/den-vs-sac-0022500212) ).
The Celtics and Sixers have met 473 times in regular-season play, and this year marks their closest contests ever, with each of their initial two games ending by just one point.
The Sixers edged out a 117-116 (https://www.nba.com/game/phi-vs-bos-0022500083) victory on opening night; the Celtics flipped the script on Halloween with a 109-108 (https://www.nba.com/game/bos-vs-phi-0022500021) win. Their feud continues this evening.
Keep an eye on the offensive dynamics—the Sixers lead the league in blocks at 7.0 per game, while the Celtics dominate with 31.3 points from pull-up jumpers and rank tops in screen assists at 9.8.
With Joel Embiid absent (https://www.nba.com/news/sixers-joel-embiid-out-right-knee-soreness) , Boston's challenge against Andre Drummond and Adem Bona in the paint could give Philly an edge.
Russell Westbrook and Nikola Jokić hold the No. 1 and No. 3 spots on the all-time triple-doubles list (https://www.nba.com/news/most-triple-doubles-in-nba-history) , with Oscar Robertson in between them, serving as versatile offensive forces for their squads. (For those new to basketball, a triple-double means double-digit totals in three of five categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, or blocks—it's a rare feat showcasing all-around excellence.)
After teaming up last season—and combining for 60 points, 26 rebounds, and 20 assists in a 130-124 (https://www.nba.com/game/sac-vs-den-0022500162) Nuggets triumph on Nov. 3—they now square off in the evening's finale, each guiding gifted rosters that include talents like Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Aaron Gordon, and Jamal Murray.
“He occupies a league of his own,” Westbrook remarked last year about Jokić. “His selflessness is incredible. He simplifies the game for his teammates.”
Expect some spectacular hoops tonight.
Here's the full schedule:
- Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets, 7:30 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/tor-vs-bkn-0022500207)
- Memphis Grizzlies vs. New York Knicks, 7:30 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/mem-vs-nyk-0022500208)
- Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers, 8 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/bos-vs-phi-0022500209) (NBC, Peacock)
- Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Golden State Warriors, 8 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/gsw-vs-okc-0022500210)
- Indiana Pacers vs. Utah Jazz, 9 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/ind-vs-uta-0022500211)
- Denver Nuggets vs. Sacramento Kings, 11 ET (https://www.nba.com/game/den-vs-sac-0022500212) (NBC, Peacock)
But here's where it gets controversial: With Embiid out, is this the perfect storm for the Sixers' perimeter stars to shine, or will the Celtics' depth prove game-changing without relying on one dominant big? And for Jokić versus Westbrook, who's the true triple-double king in the modern era—Jokić's efficient passing or Westbrook's high-energy hustle? Share your thoughts in the comments: Do you agree Maxey could lead Philly to glory, or is this just hype? Will tonight's rivalries spark playoff fire, or are we overhyping these tight matchups?
