The Reunion of DeVries and Enright: A Perfect Storm?
Conor Enright, a native of Mundelein, Illinois, is one of the two players on the 2025-26 roster who has previously played under Coach Darian DeVries. Their paths crossed again as DeVries took the IU job, and Enright, seeking a winning opportunity for his final season, transferred to Bloomington. But here's where it gets controversial: should players follow their coaches to new teams, or is it better to forge their own path?
Enright's journey began with DeVries at Drake University, where he signed in the 2021 recruiting class. DeVries was in the midst of rebuilding the program, and Enright's arrival coincided with a successful 26-5 season and an NCAA tournament appearance.
During his freshman year, Enright sat out as a redshirt, but he quickly became a stalwart for the Bulldogs in the Missouri Valley Conference. Despite modest statistical contributions, he earned MVC All-Freshman team honors. His impact went beyond the numbers, with DeVries praising his intangible qualities and his ability to make those little plays that win games.
"He plays with an incredible intensity, as if every possession is the last one of the game," DeVries said. "He's fast, he's got that competitive fire, and I think fans will love his approach."
In his second season, Enright's role expanded, starting in all 33 games. He averaged impressive numbers, including 6.9 points, 3.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. But then, DeVries left Drake for West Virginia, and Enright, wanting to be closer to home, transferred to DePaul.
Despite a shoulder injury that cut his season short, Enright's assist rate ranked among the best in the country. Now, fully recovered from surgery, he's ready to make an impact in Bloomington.
Enright's familiarity with DeVries and the system has made him a leader on the court. He's an excellent facilitator on offense and a pest on defense, known for pressuring the ball and getting under opponents' skin.
"I've got one year left, and I want to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament," Enright said. "I trust Coach DeVries, and I know he's a winner. Combined with IU's winning tradition, it's the perfect combination. Winning is the only thing that matters."
Bottom line: Enright's work ethic and emotional play will make him a fan favorite. His numbers might not be flashy, but his energy and enthusiasm will be felt in every game.
"He didn't score a point, but he dominated the game with his assists, hustle, and charges," DeVries recalled of Enright's high school performance. "It's an infectious way to play, and I think fans will embrace him."
