After a brief hiatus, all four classic movies will be back on the streaming platform on New Year's Day, offering viewers a chance to relive the thrilling escapades of the iconic archaeologist-adventurer.
But here's where it gets a bit complicated: Disney, despite owning the "Indiana Jones" franchise through its acquisition of Lucasfilm, doesn't have full control over these classic films. The first four movies are still distributed by Paramount Pictures, which means Disney had to negotiate licensing deals to bring them to Disney+.
The films were initially added to Disney+ in May 2023, creating a buzz ahead of the release of the fifth installment, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." However, they were removed a year later, only to return a few months after that. And now, it seems history is repeating itself, with the movies being taken down in October 2025 and set to return in early 2026.
Unfortunately, it appears that international viewers won't be able to enjoy these classics on Disney+.

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" - In this installment, Indy (Harrison Ford) teams up with a rebellious biker (Shia LaBeouf) and his old flame (Karen Allen) to outsmart a cunning agent (Cate Blanchett) and uncover the secrets of the powerful crystal skull of Akator.
And this is the part most people miss: Disney's limited control over these classic films raises some interesting questions. Why doesn't Disney have full ownership of one of its own franchises? Shouldn't they strive for more autonomy?
