The former British paratrooper, with a background in the forces, learned the importance of distance, stamina, and independence. These lessons became the foundation of his 27-year trek. But the challenges didn't end there. In Kazakhstan, visa restrictions trapped Karl on the shores of the Caspian Sea. True to his resilient nature, he swam the 300km across, a grueling 31-day ordeal. He emerged in Azerbaijan, ready to continue his journey towards Europe.
The Home Stretch and a Final Test
With over 48,000 kilometers behind him, Karl is on the home stretch. He's in Romania, with less than 2,000km to go, and a return to British soil in sight. But the journey isn't over. He still has to face his third and potentially toughest "gap": the English Channel.
Karl hopes to walk through the Channel Tunnel, avoiding another swim. He's excited to reconnect with family but also plans to dive into non-profit work and embark on new missions.
