Gabriel Bortoleto's Comeback Story: Overcoming the Sao Paulo Crash (2026)

A Formula 1 driver's harrowing crash and his quest for redemption.

Gabriel Bortoleto, the Kick Sauber driver, is determined to leave his Sao Paulo woes behind and focus on a strong showing in Las Vegas. But here's where it gets controversial: he's not shying away from the cause of his devastating crash.

Bortoleto, a rookie in the F1 world, experienced one of the season's most significant accidents at Turn 1 during the Sao Paulo Sprint. Miraculously, he walked away unharmed, despite the impact registering a staggering 57g.

In a revealing interview ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, he attributed the crash to a combination of factors. "It was a mix of things," he explained. "The DRS was still closing when I hit the brakes, causing significant rear locking. The bumpy track surface didn't help either. I hit a bump at the wrong moment, and with the DRS still closing, I spun into the wall."

And this is the part most people miss: Bortoleto sees this as a learning opportunity. He's already thinking about how to improve his diving maneuvers for next year. "It's all about learning from these experiences," he added.

With five points finishes under his belt in his maiden F1 season, Bortoleto is a force to be reckoned with. His team, Sauber, is engaged in a tight battle in the Constructors' Championship, just 20 points behind Racing Bulls. Las Vegas, with its unique track layout and cold conditions, presents a fresh challenge.

"The cold here is a critical factor," Bortoleto noted. "Getting the tires up to temperature is a challenge, especially with the high speeds and low downforce. It's a special track in that sense."

As Bortoleto prepares for his first race in Las Vegas, he's eager to learn and adapt. "I'm excited to experience this track and understand its nuances. Learning from past years, managing tire temperature seems to be key."

So, what do you think? Is Bortoleto's analysis of his crash spot-on? And can he turn his luck around in Las Vegas? Let's discuss in the comments!
