The report notes, "Rumors linking Donovan to the Mariners have circulated since before Christmas, and securing a player expected to be an All-Star by 2025, who boasts a .361 career on-base percentage, makes perfect sense." Given the Mariners' ambitious goal of contending for a World Series title, bringing in Donovan is particularly strategic, especially considering they were about to start the season with relatively inexperienced players at second and third base, like Cole Young and Colt Emerson or Williamson. Donovan is capable of playing both positions and stands out as an excellent choice for the leadoff spot against right-handed pitchers, having recorded a commendable .315 batting average with a .383 on-base percentage and .471 slugging percentage against them in 2025. Additionally, his $5.8 million salary fits well within the team's budget, not to mention he offers another year of team control.
