DPMB Steps Up Vehicle Disinfection Amid Rising Hepatitis Cases
In response to a concerning rise in hepatitis A cases, Brno City Transport Company (DPMB) has taken proactive measures to enhance passenger safety. DPMB has expanded its daily cleaning routine to include thorough disinfection of vehicle interiors, ensuring a safer travel environment for its commuters.
Miloš Havránek, DPMB's General Director, emphasizes the importance of this initiative, stating, "We prioritize passenger safety and are committed to taking all necessary steps to protect them. Increased daily disinfection is a crucial step towards maintaining a clean and safe public transport system. However, we also encourage personal responsibility and basic hygiene practices as the most effective preventive measures."
The disinfection process involves using specialized cleaning agents that effectively eliminate bacteria, mold, and viruses from vehicle surfaces, including handles and other frequently touched areas. This rigorous cleaning protocol is implemented in all DPMB depots, ensuring a consistent level of cleanliness across the entire fleet.
The decision to intensify disinfection measures was guided by insights from the South Moravian Regional Hygiene Station, based in Brno. According to Zdeněk Kvídera, spokesperson for the station, the region has witnessed a significant increase in hepatitis A cases, with 87 confirmed instances since the beginning of the year, including 44 in October alone. The outbreak affects various areas, with 23 cases recorded in Brno, making it one of the most impacted regions in the Czech Republic, alongside the capital city of Prague.
To further promote hygiene awareness, DPMB will distribute educational leaflets provided by the State Institute of Public Health. These leaflets will offer practical guidance on proper handwashing techniques and basic hygiene practices, empowering passengers to take proactive steps to protect themselves from infections.
