By analyzing the bacterial membranes, the team identified over 270 lipid molecules, with distinct differences between active and dormant cells. Weakening it could make existing antibiotics more effective, potentially shortening the lengthy six-month treatment period.

Prof. Kapoor suggests that improving the effectiveness of current drugs is a viable strategy. Combining them with molecules that disrupt the outer membrane could make even old drugs more potent against TB. This approach may prevent the bacteria from developing permanent resistance, offering a new ray of hope in the fight against this ancient disease.
